Jowat: safe adhesive solutions

The freshness of sweets and snacks relies also on an adhesive to close the packaging. Although the amount of adhesive used is small compared to the overall packaging, it plays a crucial role in maintaining the product’s quality and safety. In addition, the packaging is key to catching the customer’s eye and influencing their purchasing decisions.

The ideal adhesive for food packaging must adhere securely to different materials, such as cardboard or plastic films, and ensure a reliable connection. At the same time, consumers expect the packaging to be easy to open. Food packaging is subject to strict limits concerning the migration of mineral oil hydrocarbons MOSH (Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons) or MOAH into the packaged food. MOSH-/MOAH-free adhesives, which are used for the primary and secondary packaging of sweets and snacks, provide a solution for this requirement due to their content of mineral oil hydrocarbons below the detection threshold.

Jowat supplies a range of hot melt adhesives based on polyolefin that, apart from meeting the strict requirements in the food industry, can also be used for specialised applications. One of such adhesives is Jowatherm® PO 851.10, an optimum bonding solution for packaging frozen products due to its high resistance to cold. In addition, this hot melt adhesive also impresses with high yield and a clean application due to the precise cut-off of the adhesive string at the nozzle ideal for fast automated production processes.

Jowatherm® PO 851.99 is characterised additionally by resource saving properties: It has a processing temperature starting from 99°C, lower than comparable hot melts. This makes the adhesive perfect for the packaging of temperature sensitive products like chocolate. In addition, companies using this adhesive can reduce energy consumption in the bonding process by up to 45% a benefit for the environment and the budget.
