Fachpack in Nuremberg – the goal of packaging industry

It's that time of year again: Fachpack invites you to a rendezvous. 1400 exhibiting companies are expected at the exhibition centre. The European trade fair for packaging, technology and processes is an important signpost for the packaging industry. It brings together solution-orientated forward-thinkers who exhibit their innovative packaging solutions. A lively exchange between exhibitors and visitors takes place in the exhibition halls.

The most pressing and exciting topic in the packaging industry at the moment is the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which was passed at the end of April. The trade fair provides answers to questions such as recyclability, reusability and the use of recycled materials. This is reason enough to prepare for your visit to the trade fair from 24 to 26 September. Exhibitors will be showcasing the latest technologies and innovative packaging solutions that are relevant to everyday life. The aim is to tackle things together. Ideas for innovative and sustainable packaging solutions and very specific approaches to solutions arise from listening in the forums, talking together, networking, lateral thinking and exchanging ideas at eye level - that is the spirit that characterises Fachpack.

In order to provide orientation and new impetus for important topics and changes in the packaging industry, the 2024 issue with its main topic "Transition in Packaging" is dedicated precisely to the strong currents affecting the packaging industry. Sustainability is at the centre of everything and, of course, the recently adopted EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Its ambitious goal is to reduce waste and minimise environmental impact. Companies are required to invest in new, more environmentally friendly solutions; increased transparency for consumers through improved labelling requirements is now also mandatory. So far, so positive: however, there are also considerable points of criticism from economic players, e.g. the practical feasibility of the required recyclability and the use of recyclates, particularly in contact with food.

The burden on small and medium-sized enterprises must also be viewed critically. The PPWR is therefore a balancing act between ecological responsibility and economic viability, which to a large extent sets the course for the future of European environmental and economic policy. Everything revolves around sustainability and the future viability of the industry, not only at the trade fair stands, but also in the accompanying programme with its presentations and discussions in the Packbox, Innovationbox and Solpack forums, special shows and award ceremonies. Topics include the circular economy, brand and consumer behaviour, automation and AI, alternative packaging solutions and new fibre raw materials as well as innovations and technological developments. Scientific projects and solutions for various industry topics will also be presented – an immense range of topics overall.
