Technologies for sustainable packaging materials from Schubert

In the baked goods sector, smaller traditional bakeries are increasingly disappearing in favour of large industrial bakeries. High energy prices and ongoing staff shortages are also playing a role. This challenging market environment is driving many companies to rapidly automate their packaging processes. The Packaging specialist supports bakery manufacturers with highly efficient technologies and sustainable packaging solutions.

The challenges facing bakeries lie in part in the production and packaging processes themselves: Many baked goods are highly sensitive to handling, and others have to be continuously cooled or packaged in a modified atmosphere. In most cases, baked goods move straight from the oven to be packaged. Cost-effective automation with a minimum of waste calls for a packaging process that is as trouble-free as possible. Schubert can guarantee just that – with its innovative top-loading machines and comprehensive consulting services. From primary to secondary and tertiary packaging, all steps can be combined into one compact linear system. Additional requirements such as filling baked goods or packaging assortments can also be flexibly integrated into the overall process. Schubert’s modular machine concept enables the packaging of standard assortments with high production quantities as well as diverse formats in small batches. Both conventional and sustainable packaging materials can be exchanged quickly and easily.

Pick & place robots are decisive to the efficiency of Schubert’s lines. In the Pickerlines, they gently pick up the baked goods with their customised tools and place them into trays, cartons or thermoformed packs – with millimetre precision. Quality control using the Schubert vision system reduces rejects and enhances sustainability. In combination with Schubert’s flow-wrapping unit, the result is a flowpacker that integrates pick & place feeding, quality control and packaging into flowpacks – in one seamless process. Flexibility is its greatest advantage: Baked goods of all types as well as a wide variety of packaging formats can be changed over again and again without any problems. The highly advanced sealing technology processes laminated films as well as recyclable films or thick high-barrier films.

To provide its customers with the best possible advice on sustainability, Schubert has merged its entire expertise in the “Packaging Perspectives” programme. In practice, this means that the Schubert experts assist customers in the selection of materials, develop cardboard packaging and provide consulting support on achieving an environmentally friendly packaging solution. This enables bakery businesses to successfully position themselves for the future.
