Almond Board: almond most popular nut for the eighth time in a row


For the eighth year in a row, almonds defend their top position as the most used nut in product launches in Europe in 2022. This is according to the "Global New Product Introductions" report by Innova Market Insights. Its versatility and suitability ensures its continued popularity in Europe. Last year, more than 5,000 new almond products were introduced, representing 43.7% of the world's almond product launches worldwide, the largest share in the world. Five European countries are among the top ten countries for almond product launches, with Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom leading the region.

Consumers continue to focus on their health and claims on packaging play an important role as a source of information. Their strong nutritional profile and suitability to cover a wide range of dietary preferences and styles, such as 'free from' and keto, allow manufacturers to easily use almonds for product innovations to be perceived as positive for health. In the United Kingdom, there is an above-average use of health claims on products with almonds – with "vegetarian" and "vegan" at the top.
