SFI demonstrates the art of de-hulling cocoa beans

To efficiently remove the shells from cocoa beans is a challenge of keeping the shell content within the output product low and the nibs loss at a minimum. The de-hulling process relies on the different densities of nibs and shells and is a matter of optimized airflow. At an industrial scale, the importance of adjustment possibilities is obvious. Frequent changes between bean origins require easy adjustments. The new Winnower from SFI has been developed based on industrial standards, combined with the requirements of small-scale processing. The WNN15 uses multiple sieves that can be set up according to customer needs. The consistent airflow within the suction area enable a precise separation between shells and nibs. The adjustment of airflow is easily achieved by altering the position of the suction chutes and the suction valve. All without the need of tools. Furthermore, the WNN15 is equipped with a two-fold adjustable bean breaker.
