After the trade fair is before the trade fair: the Fi Europe & Ni, the highly interesting trade show for ingredients of all kinds, has just come to an end, then in just a few days the ISM and ProSweets Cologne will open, and it is also not long before Anuga FoodTec will start. We will report on the first two events in this issue, and on the third one we will inform you in detail in the following issue.

In our series “sp portrait” we this time introduce you to a family-owned ­enterprise from Bavaria which has become one of the world’s leading pack­aging specialists: the company Multivac. The success of this company, which was founded in 1961 and today employs 5,200 people, is based on innovative cutting-edge technology, comprehensive expertise in products and auto­mation as well as on many years of industry experience.

We would also like to give you an impression of two very informative events of ZDS – Zentralfachschule der Deutschen Süßwarenwirtschaft: the sugar ­confectionery congress SweetTec and the Inter-Praline 2017. SweetTec focused on the current topic of sugar reduction and new sweetening trends, while Inter-Praline gave a comprehensive overview of recent trends in raw materials, markets, technology, processes and packaging for the chocolates industry.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your interest and your suggestions and to wish you – also on behalf of my colleagues – a good, successful and, above all, healthy ”2018”!
