Lothar A. Wolf: coating, moulding, stirring and tempering

Why do we like sweet fruit gums, soft cookies, or melting chocolates? The irresistible taste is argument number one. It's mood food. And: It is also fun, as the Austrian family business with around 350 employees reports.

The ProSweets Cologne 2024 trade fair proved to be extremely successful for Wolf, with an impressive variety of machines on display. From coating machines, moulding machines, decorators and enrobing machines to tempering machines and agitator tanks, the entire spectrum was presented.

There was particularly great interest in the innovative WCF moulding machine, which offers the possibility of using chocolate as a binding agent. This ground-breaking improvement makes it possible to process chocolate in various shapes in addition to sugar.

Even the smallest version of this compact table-top machine produces an impressive 200 kg/h on an area of less than two square metres. The machine is characterised by precise temperature control and easily removable components. Manufacturers using the WCF machine can quickly produce a wide range of products.

The WCF moulding machine offers even more possibilities in combination with the powerful Wolf Coatmaster system. A wide range of products can be produced, including cereal mixes that are coated with several layers. Wolf has revolutionised the coating process and can now install three nozzle pipes in one machine, which circulate different masses independently of each other without mixing. This means that up to three-layer products are possible. In addition, three different product types can be produced in succession without interruptions for cleaning and changing. The optional belt spreader makes it possible to produce a high-quality praline-like product from a simple dragee.

Another highlight of this year's ProSweets Cologne trade fair was the strong demand for coated products, with customers placing particular emphasis on uniqueness. The Coatmaster system stood out in particular, as it is able to gently coat soft jelly inlays. From small extrudates with a size of 1-2 mm to soft or brittle inserts such as wafer pieces, the system can coat extremely precisely and with minimal process times. The ability to meet these different requirements gives the Coatmaster system unique versatility and makes it a favourite choice for manufacturers looking for innovative solutions.

The great response to this technology confirms the industry's need for advanced coating solutions. Wolf is investing heavily in the area of chocolate saving and energy efficiency in order to provide its customers with the fastest return on investment. This involves implementing the globally patented "heated scraper" technology, which enables efficient recycling of chocolate. By minimising waste, Wolf reduces the cost of the expensive chocolate mass. By using IE5 motors and circulating the air in a closed system, energy costs are minimised.

Overall, participation at the ProSweets Cologne trade fair was a complete success and underlines the company's position as a leading supplier of innovative machine solutions for the confectionery industry.
