Metsä Board, one of Europe’s leading producers of premium virgin fibre-based board and a member of the Metsä Group, has completed the modernization of the finishing area at its Kyro mill in Finland and put the technically upgraded facility into operation. The company used the annual shutdown in October to carry out maintenance work to install a new, state-of-the-art reeler and winder. At the same time, the transport system for production scrap was also completely renewed. The volume amounts to EUR 20 m.
Petri Huiko, Metsä Board Kyro Mill Manager, notes: “The new, highly automated finishing line further optimizes the quality consistency of the board reels and improves the running properties in the customers’ processing lines. In addition, the automation increases work safety in the finishing area of the mill and reduces physical workload.”
Metsä Board Kyro produces high-quality coated folding boxboard as well as innovative dispersion-coated barrier board that helps reduce the plastic content of consumer goods packaging. The mill has a production capacity of 190,000 t/a.
