The Polish Yanko Sp. z o.o. company was founded in 1990, and over the last the 30 years, it has gone on to establish an internationally acclaimed reputation as a manufacturer of flexible film and paper packaging. The company‘s management made its first contacts on the Hungarian market and in the packaging trade. In 1992, it purchased its first sealing machinery and began with an own production.
Yanko‘s broad portfolio comprises packaging that ranges from simple forms such as printed packaging strips, flat bags and Euro-bags through to technologically progressive, barrier-protected packaging such as Doypack pouches. The production is concentrated on the food product and industrial sectors and is certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, BRC Packaging. Each year, the company processes 1,500 t of film and seals some 140 million different types of plastic packaging.
Yanko is constantly developing innovations and is primarily focused on the trend toward eco-packaging. The company recently introduced a type of specially-coated paper onto the market to replace the HDPE film-coated paper designed for packaging fresh products such as sausage products, cheese and the like at the POS. In addition to the recognized protective properties of HDPE films, including their resistance to moisture and fatty products, the new coating also features a barrier against the migration of toxins from the coated paper into the packaged food products.
The primary component of the coating is formed in Yanko‘s in-house production hall via the bioconversion of starch. This new composition opens up a range of various applications for certain types of recyclable papers for food product packaging. This enables the high-quality paper featuring optimized sealing properties to additionally be used for packaging a variety of food products including fruit, vegetables and confectionery, as well as for breakfast bags and disposable cutlery. The products are manufactured on the packaging machines that were previously used exclusively for plastic films.
Yanko supplies coated, flexo-printed paper in rolls, sheets or finished sacks. Previously conducted studies have verified the effectiveness of the packaging both in relation to the migration barrier and regarding its recyclability. In the waste disposal industry, this product is handled just like paper. The tests are confirmed by a corresponding certificate. Tests are also currently underway for the use of the coating in the manufacture of corrugated cardboard boxes that are coated on the inside to make possible direct contact with the food product.
