An electronic wheel chock from My Intralogistik prevents trucks from rolling away and thus serious accidents. The safety solution can be installed and commissioned easily and cost-effectively.
Loading zones have long been one of the most dangerous hotspots in logistics. Thus, it is hardly surprising that regulation number 70 of the German Social Accident Insurance makes clear demands. Therefore, it must be ensured that the trucks cannot roll away during the loading and unloading process. However, applying the parking brake is usually not enough.
Foreman Armin Wahl knows about the risks at the ramp: “You read about accidents and near-misses all the time.” His employer, the logistics service provider Prolog-Logistics Services, therefore ensures health protection and safety with a user-friendly system. A solution from My Intralogistik guarantees that a wheel chock is always used. It allows Prolog-Logistics to make a bold vision come true: “The new company goal is to avoid all accidents,” says Armin Wahl.
Prolog-Logistics, a subsidiary of WMF in Geislingen/Germany, operates its largest warehouse complex in Dornstadt/Germany. The site is located near Ulm, just a stone’s throw from the A8 federal motorway. The modern location houses two office buildings and four halls, each with an area of 10,000 m2. Each of the 38 loading ramps there is now equipped with the inevitable safety solution “Keilstop” from My Intralogistik.
Keilstop is an electronic wheel chock. The robust and ergonomic steel chock has a sensor unit and an elastic spiral cable. This connects the chock to the inside control terminal and to the gate at the same time. Armin Wahl is delighted with the safety effect: “As long as the truck driver does not properly support our wedge, the gate will not open. And both sides can blindly rely on the system“.
An outside traffic light informs the truck driver if he is allowed to place the wheel chock or to remove it. Above all, it signals to him when he is not allowed to take the wheel chock away. Another indicator light in the hall shows whether the wheel chock has been correctly positioned. As soon as the chock is removed from the wheel without authorization, a light signal and an audible alarm warn the warehouse worker.
Keilstop has a very high user acceptance. Truck drivers no longer have to bend over for their wedge – they simply take the green chock by the handle. The product from My Intralogistik is also easy to manoeuvre on the roles. Pictograms quickly inform drivers from different countries about how to use it.
Armin Wahl sums up: “The system has a tremendous effect for our employees. In addition, it simplifies the operational processes: There is no longer any need for coordination between the freight forwarder and warehouse worker.”
In opposite to immobilizers fixed on the floor, the wheel chock can be installed and commissioned easily and cost-effectively by one man in a very short time. The only requirement is a 230 V power supply. The system is almost maintenance free, the supplier only recommends a continuous visual and functional check. So, did you succeed in achieving your goal on-site in Dornstadt? Safety Manager Armin Wahl comes to one conclusion: “Since Keilstop has been installed, no more incidents occurred”.
