At FachPack trade fair, Inficon introduced the network-ready version of the Contura S400 leak detector. With the Contura S400, the tightness of food packaging on production lines or in the laboratory can be tested non-destructively, quickly and reliably. What’s new is the possibility for efficient data integration of the device: The advanced software now transmits the measurement results in real time to the control centre. If a package has a leak, the problem is immediately displayed there, and operators can immediately intervene in the production of the current batch.

The operating principle of the Contura S400: it creates a vacuum in its flexible film chamber, so that the films closely conform to the packaging to be tested. If there is a leak, gas flows from the packaging into the vacuum chamber, and the device measures this pressure increase within seconds. Thus, the system reliably detects leaks of less than 10 μm – a sensitivity that no other test method currently achieves.
