Ishida: new seal seam tester ensures safety

The company presents the TSC-AS inline seal seam tester for pouch packaging of snacks and other dry products. The new device enables high-precision and non-destructive leak testing at speeds of up to 150 cycles per minute.

The seal seam tester measures the air pressure and fill level of tubular bag packaging. The non-destructive inline inspection detects holes as small as 3 mm. The quality control system also detects incorrect fill levels and double bags. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the device can be integrated quickly and easily into existing systems.

As a component of an integrated Ishida packaging line, the TSC-AS seal tester can be placed between a flow-wrapping machine and a case packer. The ITPS 2 software enables complete inline control and centralised access to the individual machines. A complete product changeover can also be carried out quickly and easily by unskilled operators at any machine control unit within the line.

The seal seam tester measures the air filling data and communicates with the flow-wrapping machine, which then automatically adjusts the sealing jaws and ensures a constant bag volume.

The HMI touchscreen of the TSC-AS is similar to a smartphone and can be operated intuitively. Settings and product changes can be made quickly. At the same time, the control system provides a wealth of real-time production data that alerts the operator to problems at an early stage so that product losses are minimised.

The appliance also has a new articulated wing cover for quick access to the inside of the appliance without getting in the way of neighbouring equipment. The open frame design favours cleaning measures and the bevelled surfaces prevent product build-up.

As an option, the infeed of the TSC-AS can be automatically adapted to different packaging lengths by calling up presets, which significantly speeds up product changeovers. In addition, the independently controlled infeed belts ensure that the bags are correctly aligned before inspection and are fed in at the correct distances.

By using conditioning brushes, bulges in the packaging can be gently smoothed out before inspection to ensure correct volume measurements.
